The first one having taken place in 1999, the festival is now over ten years old. Its origins were rooted in a desire to maintain the village’s identity and foster a sense of community in the face of increasing residential development and local government changes.

The festival has grown over the years, until it now lasts for ten days and can involve 50 or more events, and it is as true to its original aims as it was when it started.

Drawing on a huge amount of local talent and willing participants, the festival celebrates the visual and performance arts and, increasingly, includes activities designed to encourage involvement with the natural environment.  The festival has also been host to many visitors over the years who have performed or originated events in order to broaden the programme.

A non-profit making organisation, Lymm Festival is currently seeking to achieve charitable status, which it is hoped will be a positive development in raising awareness of the festival’s activities and boost the vital fund-raising programme which is necessary to ensure the festival’s future.

The Festival is organised by a fee-paid Director working with a voluntary committee and an army of volunteers from the community.
