For six years the unique acoustic magic of Ember has delighted audiences all over the world. Their simple, yet moving, music centres round the blending of two very different voices: Emily Williams (violin and guitar) of Wales and Rebecca Sullivan (guitar and harmonica) of Utah. They will be joined on this occasion by Welsh cellist Emma Bryden, who brings depth to the music with her beautiful moody strings. Event Code 02

A singer/songwriter who has a reputation as being one of the folk and acoustic scene’s most popular performers, his accessible choruses give the audience a chance to identify with the lyrics and are sung with enthusiasm. Ron Trueman Border is a gifted writer but also an extremely talented guitarist, multiinstrumentalist and accomplished singer, conveying a great sense of fun one minute and

The Marmalade Club are a group of musicians who usually meet in their own homes over breakfast, and play a few traditional tunes on accordion, guitar, fiddle, flute and whistles. Once again they are transferring to the Railway and will share their music with anyone who would care to listen or join in.

This session was a huge hit last year, so get on down there and enjoy the jam!

SINGERS’ NIGHT at the Railway is every other Thursday, and these nights are legendary – with
30-70 people turning up and the record stands at 37 who wanted to perform.

There are singers, instrumentalists, poets, jokesters and sometimes, even dancers – all are welcome. The performers get to do two songs/tunes if they are soloists/duos and three songs/tunes if they are a trio or more.

Brian Peters is a leading squeeze box player (melodeon and concertina), a polished guitarist in the open-tuned English folk style, and a passionate singer.

He is committed to the English folk tradition, touring Europe and the USA regularly proving to be an ambassador for excellence in his performance and style, playing a combination of classic traditional songs, gripping ballads and melodeon wizardry with a few surprises thrown in. Event Code 04

Directed by Lymm resident Sue Walton, The Warrington Male Voice Choir has gained an international reputation for its thrilling concert performances. This visit to Lymm comes straight after a tour of Quebec, Canada and with a repertoire ranging from classic male choral hymns, songs from the shows, popular music, shanties and spirituals to grand opera, their concert selections have something for
everyone, young and old.

Come and enjoy an evening in the company of one of England’s foremost choirs. Event Code 05

FAURE'S REQUIEM AND MORE

Once again this will be an evening of wonderful music provided by players and singers gathered
from some of the best orchestras and choirs in the country, most of which we are lucky enough to have in the North West. Under the musical direction of Nicholas Cox, who lives in Lymm. He is principle clarinettist of the Liverpool Philharmonic and also plays with the Manchester Camerata, the programme will include music by Shubert and Brahms as well as the beautiful, contemplative and ethereal
Faure’s Requiem. This concert is always a real treat, and our thanks go to the performers for
including this concert in their busy professional schedules. Event Code 06

Come and perform on the Railway’s stage, using our microphones and amplifier/mixer – whether you’re going to perform a song, play an instrument, read a poem or tell a joke (or anything else we haven’t thought of!). It is a great opportunity for those with little experience to get a feel of being a performer
in the spotlight , without the pressure. The event is open to all ages and is intended to be supportive and encouraging, so come along and listen even if you don’t wish to perform.

THE THELWALL MORRIS MEN

Colourful, energetic, entertaining and loud, the Thelwall Morris Men were formed in 1973 and
have been dancing around the country ever since. Originally based at the Pickering Arms in
Thelwall, they now regularly appear in Festivals and public celebrations locally and further afield.

THE RAILWAY SONG-WRITING COMPETITION
Sunday 1st July

Bring your song, bring copies of the words for our judges, bring your musical instrument if you
accompany yourself, or just bring your voice. Sing your song through microphones to our judges, and to all the friends you’ve brought with you to cheer you on. Completed entry forms (can be downloaded
from www.lymmfestival.org.uk, or contact Stewart Lever on 07919 270916) must be returned no later than Thursday 14th June. There will be a draw for the order of performance. Cash prizes of £100 for seniors (15 plus) and £50 for juniors (under 15)

Often considered to be Ireland’s best kept secret, Anthony John Clarke always makes a lasting impression on audiences. His unique blend of music and humour is crafted from intelligent and eloquent lyrics, coupled with beautiful melodies. SPANISH NIGHT AT THE SPREAD

Spend an evening absorbed in the atmosphere of Spain, indulging in the delicious tapas served fresh from the kitchen and a glass of wine to put you in the mood. In between courses, enjoy Spanish guitar music played by Debbie Haeck and Raymond Burley.

Debbie started playing guitar whilst a pupil at Statham Primary School and continued at Lymm High. After music college she spent time in Europe and now has a busy schedule of teaching and performing. Raymond has a distinguished career as a soloist and with ensembles. He has worked on film scores,
radio and television, tours extensively and has premiered many new works by distinguished composers. Event Code 09

MASTERCLASSES FOR THE PIANO

Lymm Festival is honoured to host a series of performances and master-classes taken by piano students from Chetham’s School of Music under the guidance of the eminent music critic and teacher Bryce Morrison. Adults and children are warmly invited to sit in on these classes and performances and
witness the fascinating process by which young performers learn their craft. Bryce Morrison is a professor of music at the Royal Academy and also at the Texas Conservatory. He is in great demand as a jury member for international piano competitions, and is a piano critic for‘Gramophone’ magazine. Event Code 11

There will be a concert on TUESDAY 3rd JULY at the United Reform Church, Brookfield Road, Lymm, at 7.00pm, featuring piano students from the school, as chosen by Prof. Morrison as a result of the Master-classes.  Tickets £6.00, £5.00 (concs).  Pay at the door.

JAZZ AT THE CINNAMON LOUNGE
Monday 2nd July

The Cinnamon Club from Bowdon provides some of its most popular artists for one night only at the Statham Lodge Hotel. Dominic Halpin and the Honey Bs are a brilliant six piece band playing some great music. Frank Sinatra meets Elvis, good honest jazz, rock and roll and some blues as well - whatever they play, people hit the dance floor. The Band includes a fantastic front line of sax and trombone,
piano, double bass and drums plus Dominic Halpin on guitar and vocals. Lunnetta Dean is one of Manchester’s finest jazz singers, bringing tenderness to some beautiful jazz ballads. She will be entertaining you during the course of the evening, as well as joining Dominic on stage with his band. Be prepared to dance if attending this gig, you will not be able to stay in your seat. Numbers are limited to accommodate a dance floor, so book early. Event Code 10

YOUNG MUSIC MAKERS IN CONCERT

For the 5th year running, local young instrumentalists aged between 5 and 18 will entertain with their exciting and varied programme of music for ensembles, under the musical direction of Sheila Biddle. Recorders, trombones, trumpets, violins, flutes and many, many more instruments, including this year, a hand bell group, will delight the audience with their enthusiastic music making. Proceeds will be divided between St. Peter’s Church and a children’s charity. Event Code 13

Chris While and Julie Matthews are breathtaking singers, songwriters, musicians and excellent
performers. Their songs cover life as they see it, from the industrial waste lands of the north, to
injustice and freedom, matters of the heart and everything in between.

Julie plays guitar, piano, bouzouki, mandolin and harmonica. Chris plays guitar, bodhran, dulcimer

THE CHICAGO TEDDY BEARS SOCIETY JAZZ BAND

Lymm Golf Club is pleased to be associated with the Lymm Festival for the first time, in this, the Club’s Centenary Year. To this end we will host an evening of Jazz at the Club, featuring The Chicago Teddy Bears. The band are acclaimed as one of the most entertaining bands in the North West and have a repertoire ranging from New Orleans through Dixieland to Mainstream jazz. In addition to celebrating
our Centenary we are also celebrating the opening of a new clubhouse which has been furnished to a high standard. Event Code 15

CHORAL CORNUCOPIA VI

Lymm and District Chorus will perform Karl Jenkins ‘The Armed Man – A Mass for Peace’ as the main work in this concert. This dramatic music will be accompanied by a group of brass, percussion, string and electronic keyboard musicians. Consort, an accapella group from North Cheshire, will be performing a short selection of part songs from the 16th – 21st century, including a World Premier!

It’s time for another fix of the Garva experience! But this year there is a difference – the band aren’t going to be limited to Irish music. Tonight, anything goes! With a cracking selection of songs and tunes, some new and many familiar, and plenty of jokes to make you groan, how can you resist?

The usual suspects in line-up are Tony Gibbons (singer, cittern), Terry Coin (singer, flute, whistle)
and Lesley McGough (singer, keyboards) and maybe more of their mates – it’s always a surprise to see who they bring along. Book early, it’s usually a sell-out! Event Code 17

Lindsey Ellis, a Lymm resident, and Gwen Yorke met in 2003 whilst studying at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. Together they form the talented vibrant flute and harp duo, Elysium. The duo perform an extensive repertoire of popular and classical music ranging from the Flower Duet by Delibes (the theme tune from the British Airways advert) to Andante in C by Mozart and
also music by contemporary composers such as Eddie MacGuire. Lindsey has spent much of
this year studying in France, and both musicians are pursuing flourishing careers as performers
individually, as well as together. Event Code 18

FESTIVAL BLUES NIGHT

The 2007 Lymm Festival is pleased to welcome the excellent Smokehouse Blues Band who play a classic mix of Chicago, West Coast swing and jump blues in the style of the greats such as T. Bone Walker, Little Walter and William Clarke. The band is now firmly established as one of the best exponents of classic swing blues in the UK, and we look forward to hearing the current line up of Johny Hewitt on harmonica and vocals, Barney Barnett on guitar, Russ Williams on upright bass and Mark Donaldson on drums. Support for the evening is again provided by acoustic guitarist Peter Price who makes a welcome return to the Lymm Festival after his brilliant opening set at the 2006 blues night. Watch out for Johny and Peter joining forces during the evening to deliver some classic delta blues. Event Code 19

Billy Mitchell is a singer, songwriter and guitarist, who for four years, when playing in the band
Jack the Lad, covered every venue known to man and some that weren’t! At the end of the seventies, he joined with Peter McIntyre to form the hilarious Maxie and Mitch, who have spent the last twenty four years playing music in a very funny way to people all over the world. Since joining Lindisfarne, Billy has only played a handful of solo concerts every year – we’re lucky to get him in Lymm. Event Code 20

Internationally recognised pianist Damian Girvin will give a recital featuring popular classical music including works by Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Schumann, Poulenc and Liszt. Since being unanimously awarded First Prize in the 1997 European Beethoven Competition, Damian Girvin has performed as both solo and chamber musician. Based in Lymm, he has performed at many of the UK’s most prestigious venues. He has also played in recital halls throughout Europe and the United States. Event Code 21

SUMMER BYRD SONG WITH ALTERI CHOIR

Once again the Festival is delighted to be able to return to this very special venue – one of the area’s best-kept secrets. Built in early Mediaeval times on a monastic foundation, it provides a perfect setting for this concert which will feature several short pieces by Byrd, as well as his four-part Mass. As a contrast there will be a selection of pieces by Poulenc including the Mass in G. Sung by Alteri, a Manchester based chamber choir, with several members living in Lymm. There will be a retiring collection for the Churches Conservation Trust, who has responsibility for maintaining the fabric of the church. Event Code 22
