DO YOU STILL THROW SPEARS AT EACH OTHER?,
Performed by GEORGE TELFER
The Methodist Church Hall*, Eagle Brow, LYMM
8pm, £7, £6 (concs)
The art of opening one’s mouth and putting one’s foot in it - or ”dontopedology” as he named it himself - is quite a talent, and when you’re the Duke of Edinburgh it does not go unnoticed.
George Telfer’s latest one-man show follows his acclaimed performances in ‘Gielgud - A Knight in the Theatre’ and ‘Burton’s Last Call’, and follows the life of Prince Philip from his
early days at school, to his first meeting with Princess Elizabeth, and his relationship with
the press.
Steve Haythorne’s witty script looks at the Prince’s private life, including his frustrations at not being able to pass his own name on to his children, and his grudging acceptance that the British public are far more interested in his famous gaffes than in the unstinting work he has undertaken on behalf of the Royal Family for decades.
“Not only did he capture all of the irascibility and stiff upper lip; he also showed the emotion lurking just below the well-drilled surface, and the mischief in his dealing with the press and a definite sense of humour about family life”. Lynne Patrick, Derbyshire Times.
