Pop-Up Poetry Competition for all Budding Poets
During lockdown, the Festival Committee ran two successful series of online poetry readings. For Lymm Festival 2021, we are varying the theme and opening the floor to all you budding poets!
The concept of ‘Freedom’ has been forefront in the public’s mind for the past year. Now, we want to see how the theme inspires our local poets.
So, please feel free to put pen to paper – we look forward to reading your work!
◊ Competition categories: Ages 11-15 and Ages 16+
◊ Prizes in each age category: £50 (winner) and £25 (runner-up).
The deadline for submissions is midnight on 28th May 2021. Poems received after this date and time will not qualify for entry.
Poems will be judged anonymously by our panel of local specialists:
◊ Hayleigh Turner: Head of English at Lymm High School
◊ Honor Giles: Organiser of ‘Our Favourite Poems’ and storyteller with a life-long love of poetry
◊ Sue Dodds: Writer, poet and organiser of several poetry events, including ‘Our Favourite Poems’
A selection of entries from each category will be recorded and released on Lymm Festival’s website and social media throughout the 2021 Festival (24th June to 4th July). Some will also be recited in the much-loved ‘Our Favourite Poems’ event held in this period.
The winner and runner-up from each category will be announced online on the final day of the Festival, 4th July, and the poets will be contacted directly.
