Our latest Winter Warmer event, “An Autumn Afternoon with Stephen Hough”, was at St Peter’s Church, Oughtrington yesterday, Sunday 18th November, and was absolutely fabulous!
A sell-out audience packed the church and was treated to almost two hours of wonderful music played by our favourite virtuoso, returning to his “home patch” once again.
A mixture of Bach, Busoni, Chopin and Liszt was topped off by Stephen’s own Piano Sonata No.4. At times, it was hard to believe that there was only one pair of hands on the keyboard, such was the rippling flow and pace of the music.
For the performance of his Sonata, Stephen was assisted by a page turner. Miss Kanako Mizuno is a second-year Masters student of the piano at the Royal Northern College of Music and she did a great job under the pressure of turning for the composer playing his own piece!
We would all like to thank Stephen for supporting Lymm Festival by coming to play for a loyal and enthusiastic Lymm audience once again.
We also thank Father Michael and the congregation of St Peter’s for providing such a great venue and to all the volunteers for helping to make the event such a success.
Stephen has designated St Rocco’s Hospice, where he is a patron, to receive the proceeds of the event.
