Festival Folk Night: Lonan

Friday 26 June 2026

Leeds-based folk group Lonan weaves together compelling ballads and driving instrumental tunes, delivering thought-provoking original and traditional material with delicacy and conviction.

The duo brings together the unique musical voices of balladeer and folk flautist/whistle-player Katy Ryder and klezmer fiddler and troubadour Robin Timmis.

Their latest album, Oddy Locks, explores timeless yet contemporary issues such as incarceration, gender and migration, with a recurring theme of resilience in the face of adversity.

Their music has been played on Mark Radcliffe’s BBC Radio 2 folk show, and they have performed at Llangollen International Eisteddfod, Hebden Bridge Folk Festival and Northern Green Gathering.

‘Engrossing and magical. 5 stars.’ Folk and Tumble Magazine

‘From old material to modern classics and original lyrics, they vividly depict people and atmospheres with the precision of neo-classical miniatures and the warmth and intimacy of an impressionist painting.’ Bright Young Folk
