Anthony Toner

Monday 22 June 2026

Acclaimed Northern Ireland songwriter Anthony Toner makes a return to Lymm as a headline act, having made a strong impression as special guest of Barbara Dickson at last year’s Lymm Festival.

His return to Cheshire is part of a busy year of live shows across the UK. Based in Belfast, he has spent the last ten years developing a growing following in Scotland and England, thanks in part to his Barbara Dickson connection, and also a series of acclaimed folk club tours in his own right.

Songs like ’Sailortown’ and ‘The Road to Fivemiletown’ have made him one of Belfast’s most revered singer-songwriters and guitarists, and he now has no fewer than 15 albums under his belt.

Blessed with a terrific acoustic fingerstyle technique, he also brings some superb stories from the road, and songs loaded with heart and insight.

In addition, he often peppers his set with well-chosen covers, some old Irish tunes, the occasional blues selection, and if the mood is right, even the odd rendition of a favourite poem from some of Ireland’s most revered writers. A true devotee of live performance, it goes without saying that he’s delighted to be back at Lymm Festival this year.

‘It’s fair to say that Toner was the find of the festival. Truly engaging, humorous, a nimble guitarist and no slouch in the song writing stakes, Toner was a blast.’ – Glasgow Americana Festival

‘His performances have transfixed our audiences each time he has been here, and he is a pleasure to work with…. an extraordinary musician.’ – Market Place Theatre, Armagh
